So it’s been a long week, and today was a long, but good day. So once the kids were in bed, Laura and I decided against TV, and to have an early night, so we were reading on the couch until it was late enough to let the dogs out and then go to bed (10pm).
At 9:50 I noticed Laura had fallen asleep, and the following ensued:
Me: “hey, Laura get up and go to bed.” Her: “…” Me: “Laura go to bed.” Her: “am I awake?” Me: “I’m… Not sure?”
This song belongs in the soundtrack for a mid 80’s move that centers around a teenager bamboozling the adults around him with his L33T H@XX0R $K1!!Z (using his 300 baud modem attached to his PC AT with the matching 8.5 inch floppy drives and 40 column amber monitor, natch) until suddenly the ALIEN INVASION ARRIVES and he has to use his powers for good building a computerized virtual space-ship what with he hacks into their advanced mainframe (what uses english characters and arabic numbers and the decimal system, natch) and VANQUISH THEM!!!!
This song is the montage where he codes the virtual spaceship, ending with him giving a high-five to the spunky tomboy girl who has been his friend for years but suddenly has new and confusing feelings for him and FREEZE!
Which I’m sure is exactly what Wolf & Raven had in mind. The whole album is great, but this one track is my favorite.
Here is a Twitter thread that I feel illustrates pretty well what a lot of my white liberal SCA friends have been going through.
Just because you don’t see something happen, doesn’t mean it’s not happening. It’s possible it’s not happening in front of you. It’s possible you don’t recognize it. And it’s possible you’re just unconsciously ignoring it.
None of those things make you a bad person – but now that you know what’s going on, you have to decide what you’re going to DO about it. Because you can no longer unconsciously ignore it.
