Ride With the Wind

by Andrew Blackwood MacBaine the Purple

Come now and hear my fine story, of brave souls who sleep in the twilight of time,
when they were among us their stars shone so bright, they live on in song and in rhyme…
one was a wizard,
one was a knight,
it was a sad day when they fell from our sight.
But they will return when we need them to fight… our call will fall with the wind.

strong… tall… silent as statues… they stand facing the sand…
one day with life they’ll awaken, and they will ride with the wind

Their faces are like that of brothers, with passions and strength shining from their wide brows
The knight has his sword drawn, he’s down on one knee, as if he is making a vow…
transformed to marble —
how could this be?
I turn to look at the landscape they see,
the sand howls across the cloak I hold to me… their gaze floats out with the wind.

Come now my brothers,
Come now my kin,
Time to awaken and fight once again!
Ages have passed, awaken at last!
Time for rebirth and revenge!

I come this day to release them — but how I don’t know and I suffer their pain,
I shout at the wizard to ruin his sleep, but I strain my voice all in vain.
They cannot hear me,
slumbering deep,
I turn back in sorrow, hot tears will I reap
I cannot breach this long vigil they keep… they won’t hear me through the wind.

strong… tall… silent as statues… they stand facing the sand…
one day with life they’ll awaken, and they will ride with the wind

I leave behind the old statues, to fight my own battles and die without aid,
I ready myself to beat murderous foes, sharpen my wits and my blade…
I sea beside me
a face that I know —
the wizard’s beside him, my horse I do slow
with prowess and majic my kin and I go, laughter floats back on the wind.

Come now my brothers,
Come now my kin,
Time to awaken and fight once again!
Ages have passed, awaken at last!
Time for rebirth and revenge!

strong… tall… silent as statues… they stand facing the sand…
one day with life they’ll awaken, and they will ride with the wind
